About this Event

Join us for an exploration of LGBTQ health and wellbeing. This comprehensive course will provide service providers with the knowledge and skills to support the LGBTQ community.

“The LGBTQ population experiences alarmingly high levels of health inequalities compared to the general population. These disparities include increased rates of mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and suicide; higher rates of substance abuse; and lower life expectancy. The LGBTQ community is also more likely to experience poor physical health outcomes, including higher rates of certain cancers, heart disease, and sexually transmitted infections.

These health inequalities stem from a variety of factors, including stigma and discrimination, lack of access to culturally responsive healthcare, and the negative impact of societal and systemic barriers such as poverty, homelessness, and social isolation. Additionally, many LGBTQ individuals face additional challenges related to their sexual orientation or gender identity, such as experiences of hate crime and bullying, that further contribute to their poor health outcomes.”

You will learn about the unique health concerns faced by the LGBTQ community, including disparities in mental and physical health, and how societal and systemic barriers contribute to these challenges. By understanding the impact of stigma and discrimination, participants will be equipped to provide affirming care and support to LGBTQ individuals and their families.

By the end of this course, participants will have a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by the LGBTQ community. You will leave with a better understanding on improving health outcomes for the LGBTQ community and how to enhance policies that promote service inclusion.”
